THE WAY WE HAVE BEEN WORKING:
1. Scan in line drawing to Photoshop: Put drawing in scanner (face down), Open Photoshop, Click File>Import>Canoscan
2. Rotate image: Image>Image Rotation
3. Crop as desired. The crop tool looks like this:

4. Clean the pencil marks or paper texture on your scanned image . Use your magic wand, click on the white background, hit the delete button on your keyboard.
3. Once you have deleted all pencil marks you will duplicate the layer (unlock first if it is on the background layer). Command J is a shortcut to duplicate a layer
4. Name top layer "black lines" and bottom layer "color"
5. Change top layer/black lines from normal to multiply.
6. Use your magic wand to select an area. Go to SELECT>MODIFY>EXPAND. Then add paint as desired.
* Now that the image is becoming more complicated you may consider having layers in between the "black line" and "color"
